What Makes Us Different from Our Competitors?
We stand by our claim to be clearly the world’s number one in direct navigation. We are the most experienced and we have the largest user base – this means more people seeing your business. We don’t "bash" our competitors, but we urge you to put them through a few simple checks to see whether their claims really are truthful.
For example, when they quote a user base number to you: Ask them how they distribute their software:
If they claim to partner with other pieces of software, ask them who they partner with and then install those pieces of software to determine whether they are telling the truth.
It is simple to prove a partnership with another software company – if someone says that they have a partnership but can’t prove it, then they are not telling the truth; If they claim to partner someone major (for example Microsoft) ask them for a contact name and phone number for someone at the partner – and then call them.
If they do have a partnership with someone like Microsoft they will also have released numerous press releases to highlight this fact – ask to see these and see news articles. Also, ask them why the partnership is not even mentioned on their website when it is such a key part of their business;
If they claim that they will soon be installed on all new computers, ask them which computer manufacturers they have deals with.
Again, ask for a name and number. If they can’t prove their partnership, then they are not being truthful. We are not aware of anyone who has a deal like this; If they claim to have been distributed in the free disks given away by technology magazines, ask them which magazines and what the circulation numbers are.
Double check with the magazines. If they are telling the truth, then take the true number to be about 10% of the magazine circulation number – we know from direct experience that only about 10% or less of readers of these magazines install all the software on the disks.
Ask them to prove the number: All numbers can be proven or at least shown to be approximately accurate by third party objective means.
We can prove it - don’t listen to anyone who can’t.
Two very simple starting tests are:
Ask them to show you where on their website or marketing brochures their user base number is stated. If they wont even state the number in writing, it is simply not true; Ask them when they started business and where this is stated in writing. Most of our competitors are very new companies and simply have not had timeto build up a large user base.
It is worth while mentioning the behavior of some of our major competitors in relation to trying to hide their software, number of downloads, and other characteristics.
CommonName installs their software in its own folder (i.e \\Program files\CommonName), which is fairly standard practice for reputable software companies. Further, we cal our software folder CommonName so that it is easy to identify and uninstall if need be. Uninstalling CommonName can be done using one of three easy and standard procedures.
- Start/Programs/CommonName/Uninstall CommonName; or
- Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add Remove Programs, select CommonName and delete it (sometimes you need to shut all browser and Windows Explorer windows before deleting).
- Download the Zipped file and run the uninsALL.exe file to remove all previous versions of CommonName
The situation is very different for the rest of our competitors. These companies place their software in the Windows system directory so that they appear to be normal Windows system files. Further, they hide their identity by calling their software totally unrelated names. Below we will so you the difference between CommonName and all other competitors that we are aware of. Please remember that we are not bashing our competitors, therefore we will not mention company names, we are just trying to state the facts which may change from day to day.
CommonName - CommonName has 41 million applications downloaded as of July 2006. The application is available for Internet Explorer, Netscape, MSN, AOL, and also functions as pop-under windows out of Google, Yahoo, MSN, Ask Jeeves, Altavista, Lycos, Alltheweb, AOL Search, Open Directory, Vivisimo, Hotbot and Teoma search engines. CommonName is the only keyword platform that has been enabled in Netscape, MSN, and AOL. To our knowledge CommonName is the only company that has had or still has affiliations with other software bundle downloads, for example, iMesh (the fourth most popular piece of software on Download.com with 497,614 downloads in one week of December 2002), KaZaa (one of the most popular pieces of software in the world for downloading music, movies, and etc…), Grokster, KaZaa Light, and URL Blaze, BearShare, Cash Tool Bar, Bundleware, FreewireP2P, Net Pumper, Singster, Maileet, Okaz, Skyhorn, and Speedhit. One other notable difference is that CommonName is a global company, able to register search terms in any language and or country.
Quick Run Down of Competitors – There is roughly 3-4 other major competitors to CommonNames. With all the other competitors combined they only total roughly 16.5 million downloads (12 million, 2.7 million, 1.8 million), 5 million fewer than half of what CommonName has. Most of our competitors have developed platforms that will only operate in North America, while others claim they have the capability to register keywords in multiple languages.
It has been brought to our attention that some of these companies guarantee hits when you register keywords with them. How can any of these companies guarantee that their users are typing in what you sell? They cannot, and in most cases the traffic they guarantee you is pop-up/pop-under traffic purchased from traffic companies.
To our knowledge our competitors software does not come bundled in other software that users are downloading. The public is finding out by word of mouth and/or in house advertising (mass emails, phone call, etc…).
If you still don’t believe us or you want to see the hard core evidence then we encourage you to look at Internet Service Providers (ISP) and statistical research companies. One thing that websites cannot hide from these companies is the measurement of user traffic that goes to particular websites. One of the best known ISP websites is trafficranking.com that ranks websites based on the traffic they receive. The closer to being #1 a website ranks the more likely the public knows about that particular company or website. Once you reach the www.trafficranking.com website click on ranking in the top left hand corner, enter the 4 letter code, enter commonname.com, click search, and then wait for the ranking. We encourage you to put commonname.com through the test with our competitors. You’ll see all the evidence you need!
We look forward to welcoming you to CommonName and providing you with a great service.
